Hooray For Holidays in Lanzarote

There are many different holiday experiences available on the island of Lanzarote. As this destination caters to all budgets and tastes. Covering the full gamut from budget breaks through to luxury vacations. As a result the island is popular with many different types of tourist.

On most flights to Lanzarote from the UK for example you will find independent travellers seeking out the latest cool eco accommodation sitting next to package holiday makers heading for an all inclusive resort. And fortunately Lanzarote is able to appeal to them all. A factor which accounts for the islands high visitor numbers which can reach up to 2 million arrivals per year. A huge figure for a land mass that measures just 60km by 40km.

Yet despite this Lanzarote also appears very uncrowded even during the peak summer months. Especially in the less developed north of the island where there are no tourist resorts or hotels. Indeed all of these are situated in the south, in the main resort of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. Which is where the bulk of most holidays in Lanzarote (2)are taken.

There is however a growing demand for rural breaks and a large number of holdaymakers also end up falling in love with Lanzarote and buying property here. Which is easy to do as you don’t require residency and the purchase procedure is very straightforward.

Despite the fact that it is a semi tropical island Lanzarote offers little in the way of vegetation. Thanks to the fact that the island gets little in the way of rainfall. A result of having no mountains taller than 600 metres to force precipitation. And this terrain is made even more arid by the fact that much of the islands surface is covered in solid lava, ejected by over 300 volcanoes during violent eruptions in the 18th century.

All visitors to Lanzarote will find themselves touching down at Arrecife airport. Which is the only terminal on the island. And from here it is possible to book Lanzarote airport transfers to take you on to your resort and accommodation. This is usually a better option than queuing for taxi. And you could also wait a very long time for a public bus as these don’t run between the airport and the two largest resorts of Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen. Both of which are within a forty minute journey by road from the airport.
